Ven aca y combatirme! A Guide to PvP

If you need a translation of the title, given that I wrote it in Spanish; literally it translates to "Come here and fight me!" No, that doesn't mean I'm calling you out to battle.
But when you do challenge someone, here are some formalities that MUST be observed.

DISCLAIMER:

These rules are player-designed and were NOT designed by PrincessPhoenix or the other staff members. Therefore, you will not face any form of game punishment should you violate any of these guidelines; but note that you may be excluded from casual PvPs or tournaments if you continually do so.

The purpose of these rules is to make sure players have a fair fight.

1. Under no circumstances should you EVER attempt to use a status move on your opponent. This means the usage of any move with a 50% or higher chance of causing status, such as Thunder Wave, Dark Void, Spore, Toxic, Burn or whatever. If you get a lucky shot with Thunderbolt or something along those lines, then fine.

2. Do not heal during battles (or use any form of items). You can't use healing items when fighting friends or in Battle Maison/Institute OR Smogon online (save for held berries/items), so you can't do so here. Note that items like Leftovers/Black Sludge/Shell Bell are NOT included in this list b/c they are held items.

3. All matches have a 3 Poke return rule. Even if the match times out or something happens, you are only allowed THREE (3) returns throughout your battle.

Stuff not related to formalities...Team Building Guide

1. Much like in the console games, your team should be diverse and carry moves to deal with as many Types as you can. I'd like to note that moves do not work the same way as they do in the 3(DS) games, so whatever you do on Pokemon Showdown may not work here and vice versa.

2. Make sure you can cover as many weaknesses in your team as possible. Whether or not you have moves to deal with Types you're weak against OR you have a Pokemon that can resist said weaknesses (and/or damage any counters), make sure they're covered.

3. The usage of fully evolved Pokes is highly encouraged, given that items do not work in the game (held ones). It'll make you look silly if you enter the match with a full Magikarp team (no offense intended, slime). And do not use Pikachu under any circumstances; his stats are too low to be effective.

If you're a new player, you may disregard rule 3 and use whatever you got at the time. Rules 1/2 should still be followed though, even with baby Pokes.

If anything else should be added, note it here.

Nah, they'll just be marked as people who don't obey the rules and face exclusion from any form of PvP tournaments [if they're severe enough].
They're also going to find it very hard getting someone to play with them.

PP doesn't enforce these, however it's the standard around here.

Re: Ven aca y combatirme! A Guide to PvP

It depends on how powerful your attack is, and how powerful his defenses are.
Also factor in the power of the move used.

On a sidenote, the damage formula that exists in the game doesn't always work at times; but as I mentioned, depends on the Pokes in question.

Re: Ven aca y combatirme! A Guide to PvP

The three that are printed in larger font are the general ones. I don't recall any other rules.
Remember, these weren't made by PP/fur or any of the game staff members, they're just rules that we, as players, abide by when we have our battles.

If we violate them, PP isn't going to punish us; you just risk not being invited into PvP tournaments or casuals with others.

Re: Ven aca y combatirme! A Guide to PvP

Whatever I mentioned in main post is true.

Neither of the game staff members (PP/fur) can punish you if you break the rules, but between regular members, you just risk not being invited to PvP in casual matches or tournaments (such as clan wars or whatever else). In essence, just don't use Thunder Wave on your opponent just because you're losing (I heard about your match with ka).

Re: Ven aca y combatirme! A Guide to PvP

The damage formula should work like the games.

As stated earlier, depending on what attack you decide to use on me, you may either KO them or seriously maim them [that is, if you can outrun them first before they kill you]

Re: Ven aca y combatirme! A Guide to PvP

Shiny Victini resists your Close Combat, but it may do enough to put it in the severe red zone.
Reshiram may probably faint

Latias resists Close Combat, but same as Victini (you might be able to KO it given how much power you put into Terrakion); that is, if it doesn't go six feet under first (given that I outspeed)

Re: Ven aca y combatirme! A Guide to PvP

You could've used this to determine the damage output by Terrakion (or whatever Poke) using this:

http://www.psypokes.com/dex/damage.php
(The Gen 6 Pokes are there; but only a Gen 4 moveset [if a Gen 5/6 move isn't there, just substitute it for a move of equal power AND/OR a type that correlates to the effectiveness of the intended move.)
